Ingredients & Substitutions
- Crescent Dough I used the Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls 8ct for this recipe. Pillsbury has come out with a crescent dough that isn't already purified, which you can use instead. See the example below for the correct way to cut the dough to get the perfect ratio of crescent roll and sausage.
- Little Cocktail Weenies: Hillshire Farms now has so many variations of little sausage links. You can go with the original Lil Smokies Sausages (made with pork and chicken), Beef Lil Smokies, or Turkey Lil Smokies. Regular hot dogs, cut into smaller pieces would not make a good substitution since they are too big and lack the flavor of Hillshire Farms' little sausages.
- Egg: Make an egg wash with the egg and brush it over the little pigs to help the seasoning stick and give them a golden brown color. If you don't have an egg, brush them lightly with water.
- Everything Bagel Seasoning: Everything bagel seasoning can be found in almost every spice aisle nowadays. It levels up your little smokies and will make people think you put a lot of effort into this easy appetizer. If you don't want to use everything bagel seasoning, sprinkle them with cheddar cheese or leave them plain.
How to make Little Smokies Pigs In A Blanket
Step 1 | Cut the Crescent Rolls
Pinch the seam of two triangles together. Cut into 6 smaller triangles, as shown in the picture below, using a shape knife or pizza cutter. Dividing the dough up like this will give you the perfect ratio of buttery crescent roll and sausage.
Step 2 | Wrap the Little Sausages
Wrap each mini sausage in the recent dough and lightly pinch the dough's seam to seal your crescent dogs. Place in a single layer on a nonstick sheet pan or a sheet pan covered in parchment paper.
Step 3 | Egg Wash
Beat 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl with a fork. Brush the egg wash over the top of each pig in a blanket. Then sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.
Step 4 | Bake or Air Fry
Bake in the oven for 17-19 minutes at 350F or air fry for 5-6 minutes at 325F
Tip
Every air fryer cooks a little differently. The first time you make these, check on them at the 5-minute mark to ensure you don't overcook them.
How to Store
Store any leftover pigs in an airtight container. They can stay in storage for up to 4 days.
Reheat them in the microwave or an air fryer/oven at 300F until they are warm. If you choose the microwave, be aware that the crescent dough will be a little soft instead of crispy. Warming the pigs in a blanket in an air fryer or oven will avoid this problem and make them crispy on the outside.
Other Toppings for Crescent Roll Pigs
- Cheddar Cheese- After rolling them, top your little piggies with shredded cheddar cheese. You wont need to use an egg wash for the cheese to stick.
- Sliced Fresh Jalapeños - keep the seeds for a big spice kick. Remove the seeds for a mild jalapeño flavor.

Little Smokies Pigs In A Blanket
Ingredients
- 1 package crescent dough
- 24 mini sausage links I used Hillshire Farm Lit'l Smokies
- 1 egg
- everything bagel seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F or air fryer to 325°F.
- Unroll the crescent dough. Pinch together the seams of 2 triangles to make a rectangle. Cut the rectangle into thirds using vertical cuts. Next, cut the smaller rectangles in half to make 6 triangles in total, as pictured.
- Wrap each sausage with one of the small crescent triangles. Lightly pinch the dough at the seam to secure it around the sausage. Place each wrapped sausage on a baking sheet or a plate, seam side down.
- Beat 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl with a fork until well combined. Brush the egg wash over the top of each pig in a blanket. Then sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.
Baking in the Oven
- Arrange the pigs in a blanket on a baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one. Bake for 17-19, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Baking in the Air Fryer
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray. Place the pigs in a blanket in the basket, ensuring they’re about 1 inch apart. You may need to work in batches. Cook for 5-6 minutes or until the dough turns golden brown.
